Christian Marclay – Guitar Drag [1] (2000)

by admin on 2010/01/31

The 14-minute video Guitar Drag, 2000, shows an amplified Fender guitar attached to a rope being pulled behind a pick-up truck. As the guitar drags across back roads and dirt trails, it produces a range of cacophonous musical sounds that often correlate to what is seen. Guitar Drag explores the collected mythologies of the guitar, the rural South and the truck, and Marclay evokes such disparate associations as rock-and-roll guitar smashing and the history of lynching in the South. This is the first half of the 14 minute video. I apologize for the poor quality. Download a full quality version for ipod here:video.google.com

yeah let me tell you, random noise is really pushing the envelope. of course. and they justify it with info on the god damned side bar! OH SNAP! its on the internet, it must be true. don’t be so dense. this is bullshit and not music. it is fucking noise.

iKitAnderson January 31, 2010 at 10:12 pm

It’s called Avant Garde and without the Avant Garde popular music will become stale. You don’t have to appreciate, but respect is appropriate. Read the sidebar and you can see that the piece is not without thought.

hemostats January 31, 2010 at 11:43 pm

trivial. no point proven. yeah, noise can be made. and yes, noise can be respected for all the wrong reasons…but…this….what the fuck man, all this proves is that people will waste money to drive home their own retarded idealism with some pompous, overzealous demonstration…bleh

He did this after a man was dragged to death. Hence the reason for him doing this in the first place. Supposedly this is the same path the man was dragged on.

This gives new meaning to the phrase “shred guitar.”
